Early History
1948
Newman
Club at Boise Junior College Founded-Fr. Peplinski, working out of
the newly established parish of
Our Lady of the Rosary, founds the Newman
Club.
1960
Lot purchased-The Newman Foundation
purchases a lot on the corner of College Drive.
1962
Building purchased-A house is purchased
and moved to the property on College Drive.
1963
Property purchased-The property at the
corner of Joyce and College Drive is purchased. A.H. Chatburn, a
professor
donates land.
Chaplian
assigned-Fr. Perry Dodds is appointed chaplain for
the Boise Junior College Newman Club.
1965
Building Dedicated-The first building of
St. Paul's is dedicated as the Newman Center.
1966
Building added-The priest's residence
was built on Joyce.
1969
Land purchased-The diocese purchases the
land around the current building, including the parking lot and Yale Ct.
Apartments.
1970
Building Completed-The chapel and entire
two story west wing of the Center is built and dedicated.
Funding
cut-The diocese decides to no longer provide
funding or subsidy to the student centers.
1974
Parish designation-St. Paul's is
designated as a "personal" parish.
1985
Parish designation-St. Paul's parish
designation is changed to a "territorial" parish.
1990
Mandate-Bishop Tod Brown mandates that
St. Paul's place its primary focus on "campus ministry".
1996,
July 1st
Suppression-Bishop
Tod Brown decrees that St. Paul's parish be suppressed and mandates is become
only a campus ministry.
Campus
Minister-Sr. Mary David Hartse is designated as
Campus Minister for St. Paul's.
2000
New Campus Minister-Dr. Charles Skoro, a
professor at Boise State University, becomes campus minister. |
